The Challenge

Amidst the festive ambiance of the holiday season, EWZ sought to embrace the spirit of gratitude and appreciation towards its dedicated workforce. Recognizing that its strength lay in its people, the company aimed to go beyond the usual to express their thanks.

The challenge before them was twofold. First, in a world where traditional gestures like Christmas cards have become commonplace, EWZ wanted to offer something more innovative and memorable, a gesture that would truly resonate with the employees and highlight the company’s unique ethos. Secondly, in doing so, they hoped to underscore the message that EWZ is not just a utility provider but a forward-thinking employer that values creativity, employee well-being, and workplace engagement.

The goal was clear: find a contemporary and engaging way to show appreciation that would warm the employees’ hearts and bolster EWZ’s reputation as a fantastic workplace.

The Solution

Recognizing the potential of gamification as a novel and engaging marketing strategy, EWZ chose to reinvent the way it showed appreciation to its employees during the holiday season. Collaborating with Brame, EWZ unveiled an interactive advent calendar that went beyond the traditional single-gift approach.

Over the course of 24 days, employees were treated with a variation of delightful surprises, a blend of enticing prizes, thought-provoking quizzes, and engaging activities. Each day’s reveal was an opportunity for EWZ to both reward its staff and reinforce its innovative corporate culture.

This tailored approach not only provided daily excitement and anticipation but also reinforced the message that EWZ valued every single member of its team, celebrating them through a rich palette of engaging experiences throughout the festive season.

The Results

EWZ’s decision to use gamification to express employee appreciation proved to be a resounding success. The advent calendar received immense enthusiasm, becoming a daily source of anticipation for many of the company’s staff. A notable byproduct of this was an uptick in engagement with the company’s Intranet; employees were frequenting it more and spent a longer time on it, subtly reinforcing EWZ’s image as an employer invested in its workforce’s well-being and engagement.

The numbers vividly depicted the campaign’s impact: the calendar attracted nearly 6,000 total visitors, with over 4,000 games played. Furthermore, the average return rate of 3.7 underscored the calendar’s charm, indicating that employees didn’t just visit once but were captivated enough to return several times. The overwhelmingly positive reception made the decision easy for the company; preparations for the advent calendar in the subsequent year were promptly set into motion, solidifying this innovative approach as an annual tradition.
