Bernerland Bank

Bernerland Bank is the most important provider of mortgages in the region. The aim of this campaign was to introduce young people to the topic and to convey basic knowledge about the subject in a quiz in a playful way. In the call-to-action, personal advice was offered.

The Challenge

A home of one’s own is the dream of many people. But how can one still afford it in this day and age? Everything is getting more expensive, and there seems to be no stopping real estate prices in particular. Together with Bernerland Bank, we thought about how we could sensitize bank customers to this topic and at the same time show them that financing a property is not an unreachable dream – especially with Bernerland Bank as a partner.

To take away the fear of contact for this rather heavy and factual topic, we turned to gamification.

The Solution

In a gamification campaign, there are different categories: Knowledge transfer, segmentation, skill games and games of chance. Since knowledge transfer was the main focus in this case, the choice quickly fell on a quiz game – implemented on the bank’s homepage. This gave us the opportunity to actively involve the users and to convey the knowledge in well-dosed units, in the form of 7 questions. Throughout the quiz, possibilities for how financing can be realized were shown to the customers in a playful way in addition to what requirements are necessary and the options available specifically at Bernerland Bank. The mechanics: We put assertions / facts in the room, which should be answered with “True” or “False”. Clicking the corresponding button was followed by the solution with a short explanation. For example, the first question was: “To finance a home, I need at least 20% of my own funds.” The solution then popped up: “Correct. To finance your own home, you need at least 20% equity. These usually come from savings, gifts, inheritances, or retirement funds.” In this way, we were able to take away uncertainties and point out possible solutions, question by question. At the end of the 7 questions, customers were once again asked to retrieve their personal quiz results. This required a short registration with the most important customer data.

The Results

Within a very short time, 310 leads were collected, 88 of which registered their interest for further information about home-related financing. A targeted follow-up confirmed the assumption: After personal contacts with the interested parties, Bernerland Bank sent out 10 mortgage offers – with a total volume of more than CHF 10 million.
